UK progressive rock outside the canon

The purpose of this theme is to focus on the work of less visible British musicians during what one might call the ‘long ‘70s’. While exploring the range of music present, it will ask whether this expands the stylistic reach of the canonic bands, or simply re-plays it. We are interested in whether any distinctions between these musicians and those of ‘the canon’ in terms of style, proficiency, range of output, motivation (etc.) provide grounds for differences of visibility, or perhaps these differences were simply the creation of music journalists, and based on other criteria.

To date, we expect to have coverage of sone of the Canterbury bands (National Health, Egg, Gilgamesh etc.), and some of the keyboard-led bands (Van der Graaf, Gryphon, Gracious, Greenslade, Clouds etc.).
